We thought y'all might enjoy an instrumental version of our latest track, As We Burn!
As We Burn was inspired by the story of Joan of Arc and her commitment to her beliefs, even until the bitter end. Joan made waves during the 100 Years War as a figurehead for the French people and their resistance against English occupation. She was truly a one of a kind leader in this time, a lowborn teenage girl, who was acting upon visions of St. Michael to defend France. After several victories on the field of battle, the powers that be cast her aside when she was no longer of use to them, in a dog and pony show that ultimately resulted in her execution. Only a few years later she was recognized as a national hero of France, and a symbol of unwavering faith, liberation, resistance, and feminism.
We hope that you can find your own meaning and inspiration in her story as we did.
lyrics
Born to a hundred years of war
in a kingdom fractured and torn
Caught in a battle of great lords
asking what is this all for?
A vision impales you with your convictions
your banner, your cross, and your burdens
Take up your arms, no reservations
Now's the time, show them what you're made of
Adapt, commit, rise to the occasion
Six and ten she left home
Chosen by Heaven she heard the call
To do what great mean could not
unite the people under a banner tall
From a spark the fire grows
out of the ashes of her home
To banish the darkness she's called
To inspire a nation to stand tall
Into the fire
Into inexorable time
Flames climb higher
condemned
Thine is the kingdom of Heaven above
guardian of my ancestors and my home
Watch over me now
Protect me from the fires of hell
Sought an audience with the king
Swayed him to meet the peoples needs
Sent to the battle of Orleans
to inspire the men before the cause is lost
Every battle the legend grows
holding the line as her star rose
But in the end the faith broke
left in the hands of the enemy alone
Into the fire
Into inexorable time
Flames climb higher
condemned
Thine is the kingdom of Heaven above
guardian of my ancestors and my home
Watch over me now
Protect me from the fires of hell
With courage we burn
As we burn
